Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What services do you offer?

A. Assist, Inc. offers a variety of wraparound services, including Behavioral Specialist Consultant (BSC), Mobile Therapist (MT), and Therapeutic Support Staff (TSS) services. We also offer individual and group counseling through our director. Please refer to our Services Page for a thorough summary of the services provided at Assist, Inc.

Q. How do I know if my child qualifies for wraparound services?

A. Contact us to schedule a free, private, and confidential consultation. Children and adolescents from ages 3 to 21 are eligible. Following this consultation, there will be a follow-up Interdepartmental Service Plan Team meeting to assess the eligibility of your child to receive wraparound services.

Q. How are services paid for?

A. Assist is able to bill through medical assistance programs. In order to be eligible for the wrap-around services we provide, your child must be covered by ACCESS. When you call in to request our services, please have your child’s Access card available. If your child is not covered through Access, an evaluation can be scheduled, and a case manager will go over the process of obtaining ACCESS coverage with you. Counseling services provided by our director are covered by UPMC, Highmark, and medical assistance.

Q. Where is your location?

A. We are located in downtown, Johnstown PA near the Central Park area. Our facilities are located in suite 201 of the Park Building, directly across from Central Park’s gazebo. Please refer to our directions page for details.

Q. How long will it take to get services?

A. Typically, clients referred to our agency are scheduled for an initial psychological evaluation within one week of their referral to our program. The psychologist then will decide what services are necessary for your child. Once this information is given to us, approximately one week after we receive a copy of this evaluation, a meeting is scheduled by the MH/MR Office of Cambria County; if you are a Somerset County resident, this meeting takes place the day of the evaluation. For Cambria County residents, these meetings usually occur within 2 to 3 weeks of the initial evaluation. Overall, it takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks for our staff to begin services after the initial evaluation. If, at any time before our services begin, you require immediate assistance for your child’s emotional and behavioral issues, you may set up an appointment with our director to discuss these matters.

Q. I don't have insurance...can I still get services?

A. Yes. We do not bill you for our services. We are reimbursed by either Value Behavioral Health (VBH-PA) or Community Behavioral Health Network of Pennsylvania (CBHNP), who authorize our services. There is absolutely no direct cost to you for these services. Again, your child must be covered by Pennsylvania’s ACCESS system. You can ask a case manager whether or not your child is covered if you are unsure. If your child is not covered by ACCESS, you may contact Johnstown’s Department of Public Welfare office (533-2491) for information. You also have the option to contact our office and ask for a case manager, who can assist you in this process.
